Earnings Season Preview: The Five Prints That Matter
Not financial advice. Verify claims independently.
Which reports set the tone for the whole quarter — and the setups to rehearse now.
Every earnings season has a handful of prints that set the tone for everything else. Miss those, and the rest of the calendar is noise. Hit them — and you have a map for the next twelve weeks.
The five that matter this season
- Megacap tech (AAPL, MSFT, GOOGL, META, AMZN) — they are the index. Their guidance frames every software and ad-spend debate that follows.
- Semiconductors (NVDA, AVGO, TSM, MU) — Capex reality check. If hyperscalers pause, you hear it here first.
- Banks (JPM, BAC, GS) — credit quality and deal pipelines. The canary for a soft landing vs. something worse.
- Retail (COST, WMT, TGT, LULU) — the consumer. Ticket vs. traffic tells you whether promotion is working or panic.
- Transports (FDX, UPS, DAL) — industrial and travel demand in one place. Boring, and usually right.
How we brief them
Each morning edition turns the overnight print into three paragraphs: the numbers, the guidance, and what to watch. No jargon, no 40-page deck. Coffee-length.
Rehearse before you size
The market trades the outlook, not the quarter. Before you put real money on a follow-through thesis, run it on Stock Picks — paper-trade the open, the first thirty minutes, and the fade. The brief is free. The rehearsal is free. Blowing up an account is not.
